Can not without tints and shades

Generally speaking, a picture can not leave tints and shades. No the shades picture looks frivolous, no the shadow the picture looks too heavy.

Van Gogh draw the tints in the stars, he draw the shades in the trees. This color make the color balance of the whole picture.
